The Thanet Good Neighbours Service is a volunteer befriending service aimed at reducing the feeling of loneliness and isolation among older people in our community.
Our befriending service is open to anybody aged 60 or above, and our volunteer befrienders can help by:
We can also support you with:
Our volunteers are not carers, cleaners or nurses, but can help by simply being a friend. We hope to help you gain in confidence so that you can leave the house, use technology or just to build a lasting friendship.
We have been in Thanet for almost 10 years running our Good Neighbours Service and have over 70 befriending matches going strong in this community. Since the funding with Royal Voluntary Service ended in April 2017, we have found a new place to continue our work under the umbrella of the Kent Coast Volunteering. Our name may have changed over the years, but our work and the dedication of our volunteers has never faltered.
Rest assured, too, that each and every one of our befrienders has undergone a rigorous checking and training process before joining being introduced to you. This process includes: Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks; receipt of satisfactory references; a face-to-face interview and induction with one of our team members at the Kent Coast Volunteering.
If you would like to use our Good Neighbours Service, please contact us on 01843 609335, firstname.lastname@example.org, or write to us at: Kent Innovation Centre, Thanet Reach Business Park, Millennium Way, Broadstairs, CT10 2QQ.
We look forward to hearing from you.
