A recent Co-op / British Red Cross study (2016) revealed Thanet to be in the top 39 loneliest places to live in Britain, with older people being particularly at risk of experiencing social isolation.
The Thanet Community Support Partnership runs several projects aimed at reducing loneliness among older people. Each week, for example, we hold two social activity afternoons, "Your Time".
These afternoons have different characteristics but are both very effective at providing places across Thanet where older people can socialise and become part of the community.
If you or someone you know would be interested in attending Your Time, we would love to hear from you. Just call us on 01843 609336, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or simply turn up at the venue and time mentioned above.
"I really look forward to coming every week"
"It keeps me busy and gives me a sense of belonging"
"It gets me out of the house"
"It's the weekly contact that I like"
Not only do they attract lonely people to their Wed pm sessions - where many older people have already "opened up" and joined in with conversation with other attendees they have never spoken to before, they have attracted people who will talk to others at home, to their neighbours, people at bus stops, in care homes etc about the pleasant experiences they have gained in the Weds sessions. They are Thanet's ambassadors, real champions in the area of combating loneliness in older people around us"
Please feel free to call to contact us on 01843 609336 and we will do our best to help you.
